Rashford joined the Midlands club on a temporary deal in January, with the option to make the deal permanent for £40m. Speaking on Amazon Prime's coverage of Villa's Champions League exit to PSG however, pundit Red Devils legend Rooney insisted that the forward could still resurrect his United career.

Rooney said: "Marcus Rashford wants to play for Manchester United, 100 per cent. He is a Manchester lad, Manchester United fan, and over the last couple of years it has been difficult. He needed to play and it was clear he wouldn't play for the rest of the season at United. In an ideal world he would like to leave a legacy at United. Whether that is possible I don't know, but this is what I’d love to see."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Rashford left United on loan after a prolonged dip in form that saw him frozen out by new manager Ruben Amorim. The 27-year-old scored just 15 goals for United between August 2023 and his departure in January 2025, but has looked much more like his old self at Villa, scoring three times and keeping Ollie Watkins out of the side as centre-forward.

Nothing has been confirmed about Rashford's future, though Villa seem to hold the cards with the option to make the move permanent included in the deal. There has also been speculation about interest from Barcelona.
