Leeds United supporters have been in fine voice in recent times after seeing their side record a tenth Championship victory of the season on Tuesday night.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men went into their meeting with struggling Reading at Elland Road off the back of beating Bristol City in their previous league encounter, and thus were full of confidence ahead of the visit of Paul Clement’s Royals. And while it was far from easy for the Whites, they got the job done in narrowly edging past the Berkshire outfit 1-0, with Stuart Dallas’ strike on the hour mark enough to secure all three points for the Yorkshire giants.
Thus, there have been many thrilled Leeds fans up and down the country in recent times, although several are likely to be looking towards the January transfer window, and thus what business Bielsa and the club’s hierarchy may conduct to ease their side’s injury crisis.
And one man who should be of interest to the Whites is Everton defender Mason Holgate, valued at £6.3 million by Transfermarkt.
Ultimately, the Yorkshire heavyweights haven’t got a particularly deep squad, and that is certainly being pushed to the limit at present given the amount of injuries they have – Kalvin Phillips, a midfielder by trade, played centre back against Reading on Tuesday night.
And with the games set to come thick and fast come the New Year, Bielsa will surely be on the lookout for those players who could not only deepen his squad at Elland Road, but add even greater quality to their promotion push – Everton’s Holgate would do just that.
The 22-year-old made the move to Goodison Park back in 2015 and has since gone on to appear 48 times for the Toffees, and while five of those have come in the Premier League this time round, he hasn’t featured for Marco Silva’s side since the middle of September.
And with the likes of Michael Keane, Kurt Zouma, and Yerry Mina proving their worth in the centre back ranks on Merseyside, regular football doesn’t look at all likely for the England Under-21 international at Everton – thus, a loan move in January makes sense.
And having proven his worth to the Toffees at times in recent years, be it filling in adeptly at centre back or indeed down the right-hand-side, there is little doubting that the 22-year-old could be an asset to Bielsa in the second half of the campaign – his versatility would give the Argentine plenty of options.
Thus, with Leeds very much injury-stricken at present, and thus in need of reinforcements during January, they could do a lot worse than raid Everton for the defender – a deal which would seriously aid their push for promotion to the Premier League.
