Welcome back to our weekly preview of this weekend’s Fantasy Premier League Football action, and as usual we shall start with looking at the trends and bandwagons that have propped up over the course of the week.
Last weekend we saw some rather interesting results, but nothing was as emphatic as Tottenham’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth. With the Lilywhites still undefeated since their loss on the opening day, could there finally be a Spurs player that’ll be a consistent source of points?
Another big result was Chelsea’s, with Jose Mourinho’s men succumbing to their fifth league defeat of the season already at the hands of West Ham United and managers are selling Blues players like hot cakes. What other options could then be available if you want to sell a Chelsea star?
But no matter the result, there is always a trend of players being sold and purchased ahead of another weekend. We’re here to give you the best information before you fiddle with your own Fantasy Premier League squads.
Here are FIVE Fantasy Premier League Bandwagons and whether you should buy, sell, or hold…
Harry Kane
Remember Tottenham’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth discussed earlier, well Harry Kane (9.3) grabbed a hattrick in that fixture and he is the hot pick so far this week, with over 88,000 (at the time of writing) bringing him into their squads.
And it looks as if it’s nothing more than a gut reaction to a hattrick, despite Kane and co facing manager-less Aston Villa this weekend. After the game with Villa, the Lilywhites have a run of rather difficult London derby games against Arsenal (Away), West Ham (Home), and then Chelsea (Home).
In the short run Kane is expected to be captained by many this weekend, but after that (with Aguero set to return from injury), it may be wise to plan an exit tactic.
Verdict: BUY, but with caution
Anthony Martial
Strange how Anthony Martial (8.3) was almost a ‘must-have’ in many teams with his price rising by an incredible .3 in one week, but now he has been sold by over 54,000 (at the time of writing) before Manchester United’s clash against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
However, with Wayne Rooney in miserable form and the Red Devils’ schedule easing up with West Brom (Home), Watford (Away), Leicester (Away), West Ham (Home), and Bournemouth (Away) coming up in the next five, Martial could be reinstalled as the lone front man for those enticing games.
Even on the wing, the young Frenchman has looked dangerous and looks like United’s main attacking threat.
Verdict: HOLD!
Jamie Vardy
Well the Jamie Vardy (7.2) train is continuing to chug along, with the England international scoring in SEVEN consecutive games… that’s the form of a world class player right there.
Even Real Madrid have reportedly come knocking, and managers are continuing to transfer him in (over 87,000 at the time of writing).
And there’s no reason not to if you’re going to change your striker, with West Brom (Away), Watford (Home), and Newcastle (Away) coming up in the next three.
Verdict: BUY, but he won’t be much of a differential going forward.
Bafetimbi Gomis
Bafetimbi Gomis (6.9) started the season in incredible form scoring in his first four games, but only a couple months later is a shadow of his former self (FPL-wise).
In fairness, Gomis should have had two assists against Aston Villa in Swansea’s last game, only for an almost open net miss from Federico Fernandez and (ironically) Andre Ayew unable to finish a one-on-one.
And managers have become fed up, with over 62,000 getting rid of the former Lyon man. And with Arsenal up next at the Liberty, his dire form is set to continue.
Verdict: Sell
Mesut Ozil
Finally it seems like we are seeing the same Mesut Ozil (8.6) that wowed the world at Real Madrid, with the Germany star racking up five assists in his last four games.
With this sort of form, it’s hard to not bring Ozil into your squad (over 61,000 transferred in at the time of writing), unless you already have (or want) explosive teammate Alexis Sanchez (11.6). But with Sanchez a whole 2.0 more expensive, investing in Ozil could be an easier option than making room for the Chilean.
Now the alternative here is to double up on Ozil and Sanchez, but with Walcott injuring himself, it could be wiser to invest in Olivier Giroud instead.
Verdict: No Sanchez? Buy Ozil. Have Sanchez? Get Giroud.
